BRØL(=Danish word for roar, bellow. howl) is an art project by Peter Holmgård in collaboration various musicians and artists.

BRØL deals with diversity and resonance.

The core of the project is a large collection of video- and sound recordings of people who roar.

The collection is the pivotal point in an extensive artistic body of work.

From this, a number of musical compositions, sculptural installations, a performance series and a BRØL-portrait web album - THOSE WHO ROAR , are being generated.

The roars are recorded during a series of performance actions with changing participators.

The first roar event took place at InterAzione Festival in Sardinia in April 2010. Since then we have done several BRØL, at the Copenhagen Cathedral, the University of Copenhagen, MMac festival and AAC festival in Japan and many more.

The BRØL performances that we have made so far, have all been following, roughly, the same recipe:

- One after the other, the audience and selected participators are invited to contribute with a roar.

- The sound is recorded, edited and played back in a musical composition that is mixed on the spot.

- The procedure is repeated 5 – 20 – 50? times. Roar by roar the composition changes.

The project should unfold in many different ways, in many different contexts and in collaboration with many different musicians, artists and performers.

New visual and dramatic elements (text, music, smoke machines, video, light, sculpture etc.) make each situation unique. 

At Fukushima Contemporary Art Biennale in October, Professor Shimazu and four of his young composer colleagues joined the performance/installation and presented their personal BRØL compositions.

In Asterions Hus in June in Copenhagen the BRØL event developed into a jam session.

We can do BRØL as an autonomous performance/music piece half an hour or several hours in a row, or as a series of events initiating a sculptural installation.

We can BRØL at theatres, clubs, in the street in galleries and museums. BRØL is meant to change and grow continuously.

Where ever it is possible, we wish to enter into a dialogue with local producers and partners in order to achieve the optimal set up for the specific situation.

BRØL er et kunstprojekt af Peter Holmgård i samarbejde med forskellige musikere og kunstnere.

BRØL drejer sig om diversitet og resonans.

Kernen i projektet er en samling af video- og lydoptagelser af mennesker der brøler.

Samlingen er omdrejningspunkt for et omfattende værkkompleks.

Fra den genereres musikalske kompositioner, skulpturelle installationer, en serie performances og et BRØL video-portræt-album på internettet. – DEM DER BRØLER 

BRØLene indspilles under af en række mere eller mindre iscenesatte situationer med skiftende BRØLere.

Den første BRØL event fandt sted på InterAzione Festival på Sardinien i april 2010.

Siden da har vi lavet BRØL i Københavns Domkirke, Københavns Universitet, MMAC og AAC Festival i Japan og mange andre steder.

De BRØL performances vi indtil videre har lavet har alle fulgt, sådan cirka, den samme opskrift:

- Publikum og udvalgte deltagere inviteres til - en efter en - at bidrage med et brøl.

- Lyden bliver indspillet, redigeret og afspillet i en musikalsk komposition som bliver mikset på stedet.

- Proceduren gentages 10 – 20 - 50? gange, brølet. For hvert brøl forandres kompositionen.

Projektet skal udfoldes i mange forskellige sammenhænge på mange forskellige måder og i samarbejde med mange forskellige musikere, kunstnere og performere.

Nye visuelle og dramatiske elementer (tekst, musik, røgmaskiner, lys, video, skulptur osv.) gør hver ny situation unik.

Ved Fukushima Contemporary Art Biennale i oktober præsenterede professor Shimazu og fire af hans unge komponist kolleger deres egne BRØL kompositioner som en del af eventen.

I Asterions Hus i juni i København udviklede BRØL sig til en stor jamsession med fem fine gæstemusikere på basun, bas, keyboard, guitar mm.

Vi kan lave BRØL som et enkelt performance/musik værk en halv time eller flere timer i træk eller vi kan lave en serie events der aktiverer en skulpturel installation.

Vi kan brøle på teatre, klubber, på gaden, i gallerier og museer. Brøl er skabt til at forandre sig og vokse i mange forskellige situationer, mange steder.

Hvor det muligt vil vi gå i dialog med arrangører og (lokale) partnere for at opnå det optimale setup for den specifikke situation.
